BEERS WITH NIGEL
Beer Karma — it’s real. Please follow rule #2! You hear Nigel and Nick preach this rule of living all the time. The rule is hard, but this shirt is soft like the sultry smooth jazz voice in the podcast intro. Don't miss your chance to rock this t-shirt and spread the gospel of Beer Karma.
Act 21: Don’t count out the Okies, the brew scene’s getting Lively
Pat Lively, of Lively Brewing, joins the show. Pat is veteran brewer who started his career at COOP Brewing. Pat talks about running his own brewery, the Oklahoma craft beer scene and his role as president of the Craft Brewers Association of Oklahoma.
Act 20: So, a meteorologist walks into a bar…
Meteorologists like beer, too. In fact, this week's guest brewed a beer at Wind Shift Brewing in Blue Springs, MO. Joining us this episode is KMBC weather chief Bryan Busby. We talk about his recent adventure in brewing and learn he’s great at character voices and just a generally funny dude.
Act 19: The one where they cross the pond
Joining the BeersWithNigel pod is Award-winning writer, Melissa Cole. She’s one of the UK's leading beer and food experts. Melissa is an international beer judge and has brewed with some of the world's most respected breweries. I like to call her a force of nature. And she’s super funny too! We talk about how we met in London, what “hoppy’ means and other stuff!
Act 18: This guy must be a Boy Scout because dude came prepared
Alright, alright, alright... Act 18 brings president of Kansas City area home brew club ZZ Hops to the show. Brett Wooderson is an award winning home brewer, known for making some pretty crazy but balanced home-brews. Nick & I have dubbed him the most prepared guest as he had cooler of beer ready for the show; including Fairy Nectar from Cross Strain, Brownie Points from Maplewood and Ella on Holiday from Pathlight. Nick’s mystery beers: Yeah Buoy from Logboat, Firework Fight from Vanessa House and Strat Fjords from Strange Days Brewing.
Act 17: If you brew it, they will come
Episode 17 of Beers with Nigel features self proclaimed Beer Chef Rodney Beagle, brewer at 3 Halves brewing in Liberty, MO. We find out how he got into beer, his days as a gypsy brewer, what inspires his "mad scientist" beer recipes and what 3 Halves represents. We also had first car accident on the podcast. Rodney sipped on 3 Halves QBC Wheat, while Nick & I drank Boulevard's Jam Band.. Mystery beers were Absence of Light from 4 Hands, French Toast Restless Soul from Servaes and a NEIPA from Finkel & Garf.
Act 16: The real story of Tank 7… and other stuff
#BeersWithNigel Act 16 features Jeremy Danner of 4 Hands Brewing. The conversation runs the gamut as we talk beer (of course), how he got into beer. We find out he had a hand in the creation of Boulevard's Tank 7. We also get his take on diversity in the beer scene.
Act 15: Something to write about
Act 15 of #BeersWithNigel features Writer, Chef, Beer & Wine enthusiast Pete Dulin. We talk beer, food and about the 3 books Pete has authored. We also talk about the Kansas City beer scene among other stuff. Nick's mystery beers include Windshift's Tiramisu Stout, Grains & Taps Octoberfest and a stout from home brewer Travis Bacon.
Act 14: We went live and Nigel was hot!
Ok, yes it was definitely hot outside while we recorded this episode during the grand opening of Transparent Brewing. But Nigel was attacking the mic like it was a kid peeing on his lawn. What were the guys drinking? Kickstand Kolsch, Tippin' Stout, Oui Bit Fancy French Saison.
Act 13: Her talent runneth over
Homebrewer, beer lover, and new assistant brewer at Torn Label Brewing, Dez Jones joins the show. We talk beer, how she got interested and how she landed her new gig (Which is a HUGE deal). We also had a great conversation on diversity.
Act 12: Meeting role models, affecting change & don’t forget the beer
The Drinking Partners & creators of Fresh Fest Beer Fest, Day Bracey & Ed Bailey join the show from Pittsburgh, PA. We talk about Fresh Fest being a digi-fest this year, their long running podcast & diversity in craft beer. Nick's mystery beer was a unmarked can from City Barrel and the Black is Beautiful from Crane Brewing. I sipped on beer from Side Project & Servaes Brewing. Day had the Black is Beautiful from Hitchhiker Brewing and Ed imbibed on beer from 11th Hour Brewing. Enjoy the episode!
Act 11: There’s no fault in our stars!
On this episode we visit we beer lover/brewery ambassador Scott Kranz. I've dubbed his family KC's First Family of Craft beer. We talk breweries, brewfests and his insane number of unique beers he has checked in on Untappd.
Act 10: The Black is Beautiful beer project
First, let's get one thing out of the way. Nick loves Courtney Servaes and her unending line of tasty brews. OK, now that we have that out of the way, Courtney, Bri Burrows of Big Rip Brewing and Chris Meyers of Crane Brewing join Nigel and Nick to talk about the Black is Beautiful beer project led by last week's guest, Marcus Baskerville from Weathered Souls Brewing. Proceeds of the beer will go to supporting social justice causes.
Act 9: Weathered Souls’ Black is Beautiful recipe pours across the country.
In a strange twist, the guys are offering up a timely episode. Nigel and Nick are joined by Weathered Souls Brewing owner Marcus J. Baskerville to talk about the craft beer scene in San Antonio, his trek from beer drinker to an up-and-coming owner and head brewer and his Black is Beautiful project. And as an added treat, Wind Shift Brewing's Tony DiPlacito joins the conversation.
Act 8: OMG, the bar’s on fire; somebody grab the beer!
Man, I love that old Bottlerockets song. Nigel and Nick got tired of recording via video conference, so they packed up the beer wagon and marched their way to the dwelling of friend-of-the-show and social media guru, John Beaudoin, for a driveway fire-pit chat. As usual, craft brew was consumed, during conversations ranging from craft beer road trips to... well, other things.
Act 7: The road trip that wasn’t. Thanks, ‘Rona.
Beware, this episode contains graphic images — Nick Parker was lazy and defiantly drank his beer from a can... When they started this show, the plan included a spring and summer full of road trips and guest interviews with craft beer lovers from all over. Alas, Lady Covid had other ideas. This week, Chalonda – aka Afro Beer Chick — joins nick and host Nigel Woodberry for a peek into the Chicago beer scene and... well, other things.
Act 6: Welcome to our virtual quarantine taproom
Beware, this episode contains graphic images — Nick Parker was lazy and defiantly drank his beer from a can... When they started this show, the plan included a spring and summer full of road trips and guest interviews with craft beer lovers from all over. Alas, Lady Covid had other ideas. This week, Chalonda – aka Afro Beer Chick — joins nick and host Nigel Woodberry for a peek into the Chicago beer scene and... well, other things.
Act 5: Hippity Hoppity Hooray
Nigel and Nick are, surprisingly, still talking about beer. This week, their friend Woodie drops by the studio to talk about community and festivals.
Act 4: A man with a plan
Brewer and business owner, Nolan Brown, drops by the studio for a chat with Nigel and Nick.
Act 3 (But really Act 5): The OGs of Lee's Summit's craft beer scene
This episode wasn't supposed to drop for a few weeks, but as Nigel and Nick and got into their conversation with two of the guys behind downtown Lee's Summit's Grains & Taps, they realized there was no avoiding talk of COVID-19 and its effects on local breweries and tap rooms. Oh, and a big thank you to the guys, who years ago, launched the hashtag that named the show... So here it is, Act 5 in the place of Act 3.
Act 2: She is craft beer
Alana Broyles drops by the studio and she's packing some mystery beers for Nigel and Nick as they talk about women brewers and inviting broader audiences into our favorite beer halls.
